Rachel’s Story

“It’s amazing what a little red lipstick will do.”
– Rachel Doyle, 24, New York City/Los Angeles

Rachel DoyleA sweep of blush and a dab of lip color go a long way for Rachel Doyle, founder and president of GlamourGals, a non-profit organization that gives facials and makeovers to elderly women in nursing homes and assisted living centers across seven states in the U.S. Rachel, 24, started GlamourGals in 2000 from her home in Commack, NY, after her grandmother “Teeny” died in a nursing home in Nevada. “This is a way for her to live on,” says Rachel, who has been recognized by many newspapers and magazines for her efforts, and is a past winner of CosmoGIRL! of the Year. “I can visit other peoples’ grandmothers when they may not be able to.” It’s that attention and companionship from GlamourGals’ 1,000 volunteers–mostly female high school students–that the elderly value most, notes Rachel. Now prepping for Glamour in the City, a May 17th fundraiser in New York City, Rachel hopes to raise $55,000, which will help double the number of chapters from 50 to 100 in the next few years. “We want to bring color and warmth to the elderly,” says Rachel. “And brighten up their lives.”

The Goal: $13,000 to help GlamourGals reach their target of $55,00 for their May 17th fundraiser
