Danielle’s Story

“I’m glad I could help my family, and that we’re OK.”
– Danielle, 12, Flint, Michigan

As ABC12.com and WNEM-TV5 have reported…
DanielleThanks to her quick thinking, 12-year old Danielle woke up – and saved – her family when a kitchen fire broke out a few weeks ago in her Flint, Michigan home. Her mother, Kimberly Jones, 36, got her three young children (ages 4, 6 and 10) out of bed, while Danielle called her 14-year old brother from his room, then ushered her siblings outside in their pajamas and bare feet. “I was scared,” says Danielle, whose bravery was later recognized by the city’s mayor. “I’m just glad we got out.” After losing all of their personal belongings and being temporarily homeless, the family has found a place to live. “I’m very proud of Danielle,” says Kimberly. “I’ve always told my kids that we have to look out for each other.”

The Goal: $6,000 for beds, mattresses, dressers and clothes
